Alan
(Suitcase) Fidler
Suitcase Fidler, DOB 11-2-19, the
hood they were supposed to kill. Suitcase also figures in the Billy
Bulger story. Billy had a friend from Charlestown named Jackie
Birmingham, whose brother, Thomas F. Birmingham, was a gangster murdered
in 1969. Birmingham, a veterans’ agent for the City of Boston, once
applied for welfare payments for Suitcase’s family, claiming he was
injured, when in fact he was in jail. This is called welfare fraud.
Jackie went to Billy, and Billy arranged for the case to be dropped.
(This is all in Billy’s autobiography, While the Music Lasts.) Jackie
had a son, Thomas F. Birmingham (named after the hoodlum uncle) and
guess who succeeded Billy as president of the Senate – Sen. Tom
Birmingham.
