Alexander
(Bobo) Petricone
|
Alexander F. Petricone, DOB 2-29-36. He was a hanger-on in the original
Winter Hill gang of the early 60’s. According to Vincent Teresa in “My
Life in the Mafia,” it was Rocco whose girlfriend Charlestown mobster
Georgie McLaughlin tried to pick up on Labor Day weekend 1961, setting
off the Irish Gang War. Petricone was picked up as a suspect in the
October 1961 slaying of Bernie McLaughlin, but was never formally
charged. He fled – to Hollywood, where he shed weight and became the
actor “Alex Rocco” playing gangsters in, among many other movies, “The
Godfather,” and “The Friends of Eddie Coyle.” He is now a Ba’hai. |

Alex Petricone, the Winter Hill hanger-on who later fled to Hollywood
and portrayed gangsters in various movies, including “The Godfather.”
Above are two photos of his booking in November 1961 in Charlestown
after he was arrested along with Winter Hill gang boss Buddy McLean.
They were picked up after the daylight murder of Charlestown hoodlum
Bernie McLaughlin. The charges were eventually dismissed, and Alex
Petricone got out of the city, lost maybe 40 pounds, became Alex Rocco
and played “Moe Gr, eene,” the Las Vegas-based Bugsy Siegel figure who
tells Michael Corleone (Al Pacino): “I was makin’ my bones while you
were bangin’ cheerleaders.” Note the pack of Philip Morris cigarettes to
the right of the phone. How long’s it been since you’ve seen a pack of
“Commanders?” |
