Dave Davis appeared at the barracks and demanded the
report. Johnson refused to hand it over without a receipt, which Davis
allegedly refused to give him. Davis left quickly, without the report,
and Johnson was soon transferred to a much less desirable job. He became
depressed, quit the job and eventually killed himself. Davis went on to
a job in New Jersey, and when Billy Bulger testified before Congress in
2003, Davis provided a letter saying it wasn’t Whitey’s brother who had
ordered him to go over and take possession of the report that would have
embarrassed Whitey. Davis, however, did not say who told him to pick it
up.
