Carleton
O'Brien
O’Brien, a 49-year-old Rhode Island hoodlum, was one of the last
holdouts against the encroaching Mafia. A former Rhode Island Public
Enemy No. 1, he ran out of luck in May 1952, when he was shot in the
head in his backyard in Cranston after he returned from an evening at
his “roadhouse.” No arrests were made.
