Condon, seated, is a native
of Charlestown who, on direct orders of J. Edgar Hoover, tried to
recruit Whitey Bulger as an FBI informant in 1971. After his retirement
as a G-man, he had a series of state hack public-safety jobs under Gov.
Michael Dukakis, center, under whom anyone in state government who
crossed either Billy or Whitey Bulger either had their pay frozen (John
E. Powers), their staffs cut (Judge E. George Daher) or were transferred
(state trooper Billy Johnson). Condon attended the famous Lexington
dinner in 1985 with mobsters Whitey Bulger, Zip Connolly and Stevie
Flemmi, at which crooked FBI agent John Morris was given a $5,000 bribe.
(Condon claimed he didn’t know who would be attending, never would have
shown up if he had known, and quickly left after dinner, before any
felonies were committed.) In this exclusive Whitey Watch video clip,
Condon bids a fond farewell to the man he helped recruit for the FBI,
Whitey’s rat in the Bureau, Zip Connolly.
