Diane Kottmyer is now a superior court judge in Massachusetts. But in
December 1990, when Zip Connolly retired from the FBI, she was a federal
prosecutor who’d worked on, among other cases, the Angiulo prosecution.
She was a speaker, and in this photo Zip holds the bottle of wine he has
just been given as a gift by the future jurist. She tells Zip and the
crowd that they wanted her to say that the bottle came courtesy of the
South Boston Liquor Mart. (South Boston Liquor Mart is the package store
that Whitey allegedly extorted at gunpoint from its rightful owners to
use as a money laundromat. This alleged crime was never proven, nor was
Whitey ever prosecuted for it. ) When Zip hears her mention Whitey's
establishment, he leans in and calls it "the best liquor store in the
Commonwealth," and boy, does that crack the future judge up. |
