Dorothy (Dot)
Barchard
|
Dorothy Barchard, who was perhaps the premier moll of the Boston
underworld in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Her husband, Richard was also a
member of Whitey’s crew, and she traveled with Whitey and her husband to
their final job in Hammond, IN in late 1955. By the time lovestruck
Ronnie got out of prison, she’d been linked with various other hoods,
including two who’d tried to hijack an airliner. She also saw a lot of
Spike O’Toole, a plug-ugly from Savin Hill by whom she had two children.
Spike would be murdered by Whitey in 1973. Dermody wanted to eliminate his love rival Spike, who was
doing a stretch in state prison, so he went to the McLaughlins and
offered them a deal: If I take Buddy McLean, the boss of Winter Hill off the board will you clip Spike in the can for me? The McLaughlins
naturally agreed, but there was only one problem: Dermody missed. He
panicked and called an FBI agent… H. Paul Rico. |
