Jack Kelly
Kelly was an investigative reporter who crossed then-Mayor Kevin White
and was eventually fired. He fell in with a bad crowd and boasted of
knowing gangsters. There was a bar at the time on Summer Street known as
The Blackfriars. One of Stevie Flemmi’s many girlfriends worked there as
a waitress. One night in the summer of 1978 she got a call from Stevie,
telling her she might want to take the night off.
That night, after closing, gunmen entered the bar, stole thousands in
cash and cocaine, and then executed five men inside, including Jack
Kelly. Two men were tried, but never convicted. Another likely suspect,
Nick Femia, went to work for Whitey and Stevie shortly thereafter. (He
was shot during a robbery in East Boston in 1983).
Kelly left a widow and four children in Framingham. He was 34 years old
when he fell to gangland guns. |
