In
1981-82, he had a beef with Brian Halloran, whom Whitey was lining up
for a kill. In May 1982, Whitey got word that Halloran was drinking in a
barroom on Northern Avenue in Southie. In addition to a carbine, Whitey
, also located a brown Afro wig, which he was wearing when he yelled at
Halloran just before he opened fire, fatally wounding him and a
construction worker named Michael Donahue who had unfortunately offered
Halloran a ride home. With the wig, Whitey looked eerily like Jimmy
Flynn, and minutes later, when the cops arrived, they asked the dying
Halloran who had shot him.
“Jimmy Flynn,” he said with his dying breath.
Read Kevin Weeks’ recollection at crooked FBI agent Zip Connolly’s 2002
trial of how amused Whitey was by this amazing bit of good fortune.
