That’s Fats, right, after his indictement in June 1956
on charges of being an accessory in the Brinks robbery. The guy behind
him in the hat is Edward “Wimpy” Bennett, who was also indicted after
police raided a roominghouse and found $90,000 of the lost Brinks loot
in a basement office. The cops couldn’t make the charges stick, but
Wimpy didn’t like loose ends. It’s safe to assume he’s the one who
clipped Fats. At the same time, he was bringing along in the rackets a
nice young man named Stevie Flemmi, who would shoot Wimpy in the head in
1967, and then murder two of his brothers, Walter and William.
