McGonagle was the head of the Mullens, the gang that rivaled the
Killeens when Whitey was an ex-con fresh out of Leavenworth. One of
McGonagle’s brothers was murdered by mistake, and in revenge, the
McGonagle crew killed Billy O’Sullivan, another of Donnie Killeen’s
enforcers. After Whitey murdered Killeen and took over, he never forgot
how he’d been hunted. In 1974, with help from Tommy King, he murdered
McGonagle and then buried his body on Tenean Beach in Dorchester, after
dumping his car and wallet off a pier in Charlestown. His body wasn’t
found for a quarter-century. His sister-in-law, by the way, was
Catherine Greig, who went on to become Whitey’s moll and is still on the
lam with him today. |
