Raymond
DiStasio
Bartender at
the Mickey Mouse Lounge in Revere, member of the McLaughlin gang. Age
35. Joe Barboza caught him “flat-footed,” as Vinnie Teresa puts it, in
the bar in November 1965, a couple of weeks after the murder of Buddy
McLean. There was just one small problem -- a civilian named John O’Neil
happened to be in the bar, buying cigarettes. Not that that was a
problem for The Animal. After killing DiStasio he shot down O’Neil, the
father of four young children, on the dance floor. The next day, in the
Globe, reporter Jeremiah V. Murphy referred to an “animal.” Barboza
wanted to sue, but Wimpy Bennett told him it was good publicity.
