Click to
hear audio of Whitey Bulger's wiretapped phone calls
from the early 1990's, before he went on the lam.
The calls, recorded by the FBI, were given to the
media and posted on the Internet on Jan. 23 after a
federal judge okayed their release.
Note how
similar his voice is to that of his brother, Billy,
the "Corrupt Midget" who was president of the Mass.
State Senate and later the University of
Massachusetts. He even has the same malevolent
chuckle as Billy, which you can hear when he's
asking the rental agent at Marine Park why he hasn't
called him back.
The "cough
medicine" Whitey refers to is apparently just that
-- cough medicine. He always assumed he was being
wiretapped, and said nothing on any telephone to
incriminate himself. The "check cashing" office
seems to be Rotary Variety, which was next door to
the South Boston Liquor Mart. That location would
explain why he keeps asking for "Kevin" or "Pat."
Finally, notice
how dated these tapes are, even though they are only
approximately 15 years old. When was the last time
you heard anyone talk about calling someone on a
"beeper?" And when did you last hear anyone call an
office to ask for directions? Just think how many
more victims Whitey would have had time to shake
down if he'd had GPS in his car, or even Mapquest.
